Ferguson Reads to 4200 Kindergarten students in 240 classrooms at all 54 Elementary Schools in Cumberland County

Ferguson decided to take on a challenge to read to every kindergarten student in the county to highlight the importance of literacy as the foundation for all education. He began October 2004 and completed the mission March 2005. On April 5th, 2005 the city of Fayetteville, Cumberland County, and all surrounding municipalities declared the day "Read to a Child Day" and encouraged  its citizens to read to our children. The response and demand was so great, Ferguson continued the reading program for two more years. See Proclamations Below
